This program was written to experiment with using the PC soundcard for producing various amateur radio modulation signals. Currently it generates a single tone, SSTV S1 and M1 test images, PSK31 BPSK and QPSK signals, and CW code signals.

This program can output the WSC signal on to the original BNC connector without a separate converter.
As far as I can tell, this program will operate equally well on both Windows 95 or 98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP.

A bit of background story.  I started programming while I was a teenager, it has been a hobby ever since.  I enjoy being an engineer and have been experimenting with new areas of technology for years.  The main reason why I started this project was to save money on monitors and serial ports; I have a personal interest in creating a single, portable computer that could be taken anywhere and still be able to operate various simulation software programs that require a serial port connection.  The soundcard interface was the only problem I had.

All of the required files are in the zip file provided with this.  The zip file only has folders but is compilable with an untarred or extracted directory.
The included MS-DOS files are very old, so it is possible that you will encounter errors when using them.  I would recommend using the included sound card driver files instead.  The sound card driver was also used for testing purposes.

This utility can generate WSC with variable bitrates and a threshold of incoming signal to noise ratio.
Bitrate or Quality of Service (QoS) can be set in multiples of 0.1ms and 1.0ms. The generator uses a bit rate of 1.0ms. The threshold is defaulted to 0 dB.

wscgen.exe
This program takes text files that contain a list of the modulation frequencies and phase modulation rates that it is to generate.  It generates a zero-crossing tracking signal and compares to a known sine wave (or any wave shape) for a known time period. 
The program can be told to generate a series of sine waves (or any wave shape) with a known time period between each sine wave.  Each sine wave is amplified before it is sent to a digital-to-analog converter.  The program continuously monitors the output of the D/A and adjusts the sine wave frequency by applying a small frequency offset to it.
The program has no state information per se.  Instead, it monitors two counters called the IF and VOX counters.  The IF counter counts pulses that occur during the given time period.  The VOX counter counts the number of seconds the sine wave output is in the positive direction.  When the VOX counter indicates a positive value and the IF counter indicates a zero count (that is, the sine wave is in the negative direction for longer than a preset number of seconds), the program sends a beep and resets the counters.
The program is designed to use a single, integer-valued, D/A chip for each frequency in the list.

You can also use the bandwidth option if you have a program like AWRGenV3 to generate a D/A output with a known bandwidth.  This will allow you to fine tune the frequency of the sine wave relative to your input signal.  You may need to use the different LO Frequency and Amplitude settings in this case.
